Once again, I’m on a plane and writing a post to my blog. I apologize for taking so long to give you guys and dolls an update. I’ve been really busy lately, and this week, I’ve only been taking half hour lunch breaks so I could make up for the time I wasn’t in the office this afternoon.
I’m headed to KS for my cousin’s wedding. It’ll be a fun time once I get there, but it’s started out a bit rough. We sat on the tarmac for a long time waiting for some bad weather to clear out. We wound up taking off about two hours late. :( When I get to Kansas City, we still have to drive like 2.5 hours to Wichita. It’s going to be a long day. I hope there’s something to drink waiting for me when I get there! :)
I guess I haven’t posted since I was on the way back from KS last time. The weekend after that trip, I went to northern New Jersey, just outside of NYC for the Gold Cup. It’s about the largest outdoor tournament on the east coast. It was a fun time. I didn’t shoot very well on Saturday, and it wound up being twice as many arrows as I was expecting. I was expecting 72, and it was 144. We usually shoot 72 arrows a day in a normal tournament. This tournament is different though, because we shot an elimination round (Olympic Round) the second day. Most tournaments don’t have enough people to do that. It was a lot of fun. The second day, during the Olympic Round, I shot much better than I did the day before. That seems to be normal for me though. The first round, I went up against another guy from Virginia. I’ve shot with him several times before. He usually beats me, but he had a bad day, and I had a good day, so I got to go on to the next round. I walked over to the next target, and the other archer wasn’t there yet, so I set up my scope, and just waited for him to come over. Aaaand one of the members of the Olympic team came over and set up on my target! I’ve shot with him before, but not head to head. It was fun, even though the round was over before it got started. :) He beat me by 5 points, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but it kind is. We only have 120 points possible. I think it’s been 4 years since the last time I shot an Olympic Round. I’d forgotten how much fun they are. :) There’s just nothing like going up against somebody one on one.
The rest of my life has been spent working, hanging out with people, and trying to fit shooting in. My swing dance class ended, and I enrolled for the next one. I really, really, really, really, really enjoy swing dancing. The music is so fun, and the people are all really nice. (I’ve heard stories about jerkfaces, but I haven’t run in to any. Probably because I’m dancing with the girls and not the guys.) :)
Work is starting to pick up a little bit. But I’m still not super busy. It’s been nice being able to do things in the evenings, but it would be nice to get a little over time.
Dustin had to go to Texas for training. :( :( :( :( He left on Monday, and he’ll be gone for 8 weeks. I’ve been hanging out with him a lot lately, so I guess I’ll just have to make do without him for the next 8 weeks.
We’ve been having some issues with the sound at church, and I finally figured out what was wrong when I was there last Sunday. I’m going to try to fix it, not this Sunday, but next Sunday. The EQ is all screwed up, and I’ll have to re-EQ the whole system, including the individual instruments and vocalists. It’s going to be quite a bit of work, especially since I have to do it in the few hours before church. It’ll sound much better when I get it taken care of though. I’m excited to play with it because it’s been a long time since I’ve done anything like that, and it’ll sound so good!
Oh! I almost forgot! This past Saturday, I ran my first race ever. It was the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure. It was a 5k, and it was a lot of fun. I ran it with Annie. The walkers got confused and started with the runners, so it took us about 13 minutes to get through the first mile. At about a mile and a half, I found a hole and took it, but Annie missed it. I ended up finishing in 32 minutes, which isn’t that bad considering the first half of it took so long. I wish I could’ve run the whole way with Annie, but fortunately, we were able to meet up at the end. I really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to my next race. I might run one on the 4th of July, but it all depends on how much of a hangover I have that morning, because Amy is coming to visit, and she wants to go out. That one is an 8k. I asked John to order a GPS watch for me, so I’ll be albe to use it to train and get better and keep track of how far I went. Hopefully he has it for me this weekend….
Well, this is getting really long, and if you made it this far, mad props to you! I really don’t mean to always post books, but I just don’t have enough time to keep you updated on my life all the time. (And I’m too busy to try to tell you about it all) Until next time, may your days be filled with happiness, and your nights be filled with parties! :)
